VAHAN MUHURAT
NAKSHATRAS
Muhurat for any kind of vehicle
The same panchanga principles apply, but the supporting karaka graha varies by vehicle type. Here are the four categories we cover.
Car / SUV
Personal car, family SUV, sedan or hatchback. Strong Venus and Mars supportive timing.
Two-Wheeler
Motorcycle, scooter, electric two-wheeler. Mars and Mercury alignment preferred.
Commercial
Truck, lorry, taxi, commercial vehicle. Saturn and the 10th lord must be supportive.
Electric / EV
EVs and hybrid vehicles. Mercury (technology karaka) plays an additional role in selection.
Choose between delivery date or registration date
For a vehicle purchase, the muhurat should ideally apply to the moment you take possession — when you sit in the driver's seat for the first time. If delivery and registration happen on different days, the muhurat should match the day you actually receive the keys. Dealer schedules permitting, this small detail makes a meaningful difference.

Why these specific dates?
A vahan muhurat is selected to ensure safe journeys, mechanical reliability, and overall prosperity from the vehicle. Multiple panchanga elements align on these dates.
The vehicle is associated with Mars (vahan karaka) and to a lesser degree Venus (luxury and conveyance) and Mercury (technology and movement). The strongest vahan muhurats are those where these grahas are well-placed and the day's nakshatra reinforces their qualities.
Certain nakshatras are traditionally most favoured for vehicle purchase: Pushya, Rohini, Mrigashira, Anuradha, Hasta, Chitra, Revati, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada. The Pushya nakshatra is the most powerful of all — it cancels many other inauspicious factors and is considered universally auspicious for vahan kraya.
Among weekdays, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday are the most favoured. Tuesday is permitted with conditions (Mars-ruled). Saturday is generally avoided unless cancelled by an extremely strong nakshatra. Pushya-Soma (Pushya on Monday) and Pushya-Brihaspati (Pushya on Thursday) are especially powerful combinations.
Special days like Dhanteras, Akshaya Tritiya, Navratri, and Makar Sankranti are considered universally auspicious for major purchases including vehicles — these have been marked in our calendar above.

The vahan puja on delivery day
A simple but meaningful ceremony performed at the moment you take possession of the vehicle. These six steps form the traditional vahan puja.
Tilak & Roli
Red roli tilak applied to the bonnet, steering wheel and front of the vehicle — a mark of blessing.
Coconut Offering
A coconut placed before the front tyre and broken — symbolising ego dissolved before the journey begins.
Lemon & Chillies
Lemon and chillies tied under the front of the vehicle — traditional protection from negative energies (nazar).
Ganesh Mantra
Invocation of Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles — recited before the first ride.
Aarti & Diya
A diya lit, aarti performed around the vehicle — sanctifying it as a vessel of safe travel.
First Drive
The owner drives a short auspicious distance — traditionally to a temple — completing the muhurat.
Inauspicious windows excluded in 2026
These traditional periods are generally avoided for new vehicle purchase.
Pitru Paksha
The 15-day fortnight (Sept–Oct) dedicated to ancestors. Major purchases including vehicles avoided.
Adhik Maas
Mid-May to mid-June 2026. All auspicious purchases paused during this intercalary month.
Kharmas
Sun in Sagittarius (mid-Dec to mid-Jan) and Pisces (mid-Mar to mid-Apr). Vehicle purchase avoided.
Eclipse Days
Solar and lunar eclipse days and surrounding sutak period — strict avoidance for new vehicles.
Rahu Kaal
The daily 90-minute Rahu window — even on auspicious days, this time-of-day window is avoided for taking delivery.
Ashlesha & Jyeshtha
These two nakshatras are specifically inauspicious for vehicle purchase — accidents and mechanical issues feared.
Want a muhurat matched to your kundali?
The dates above are auspicious by general standards. The strongest vahan muhurat is one that also aligns with the buyer's kundali — checking Tara Bal, Chandra Bal, the 4th house (conveyance) strength, and Mars's current condition in transit. We do this personally for every client who books with us.
- Aligned to buyer's kundali
- Tara, Chandra, Mars verified
- Choghadiya window included
- Written muhurat certificate
- 24–48 hour delivery
About Vahan Muhurat 2026
The delivery day — the moment you actually take possession of the vehicle. The booking day or payment day is less important. If possible, plan with the dealer so that the keys are handed over on an auspicious date and within the choghadiya window of that day.
Yes, for general auspiciousness — Dhanteras is considered universally favourable for vehicle, gold, and wealth-related purchases. However, the day's quality also depends on your individual kundali. For most people Dhanteras is excellent, but for some charts with specific dasha activations, another date may be even better. A personal muhurat check confirms this.
Pushya is considered the supreme nakshatra for material purchases including vehicles. Pushya-Soma (on Monday) and Pushya-Brihaspati (on Thursday) are particularly powerful. The one exception: Pushya on Sunday becomes less favoured for some specific ceremonies. For vahan, Pushya on any day except Sunday is excellent.
Yes, freely. Test drives, comparisons, payment, paperwork — none of these need a muhurat. The muhurat applies only to the moment of taking possession as the new owner. You can do all preparatory work on any day and time-shift only the delivery to the auspicious window.
Either location works. Most families perform a small puja at the dealership at the moment of delivery, then a more elaborate one at home before the first ride out. Some prefer to drive the vehicle to a temple first for darshan, then perform the home puja. All three approaches are traditional.
Two options. First — request the dealer to hold the vehicle for one more day. Most dealerships can accommodate this if asked in advance. Second — take possession but do not perform the vahan puja or take the first long drive until an auspicious day. Park the vehicle and use it minimally until the muhurat day. This is an acceptable workaround in tradition.
Every journey. Begun with grace.
The dates above are the year's strongest by general standards. The strongest moment for your new vehicle — that needs your kundali on the table. We are here when you are ready.
